After nearly 35 years with Lloyd Wise, or one of its predecessor firms, 25 of those years as a partner, Michael Deans launched his own firm in 1999.
He aims to give his clients the benefit of his experience before the United Kingdom and European Patent and Trademark Offices, and in Far East Intellectual Property matters, having also been a Partner of the Lloyd Wise sister firms in Hong Kong, Singapore and Beijing, but to do this with a more personal approach and a quicker response.
Michael Deans obtained his M.A. at Cambridge University in Natural Sciences, doing Physics in Part II. He joined Tregear, Thiemann & Bleach and qualified as a Patent Agent in 1969. He became a partner at Tregear, Thiemann & Bleach in 1974 and following the merger with Lloyd Wise, Bouly & Haig in 1980, was a founding partner of Lloyd Wise, Tregear & Co, subsequently Lloyd Wise. He was also a Partner in the related Lloyd Wise Firms in HongKong, Singapore and Beijing.
He has been a European Patent Attorney since 1979 and is also on the Register of Trademark Attorneys in the United Kingdom. He has experience of trademark matters in Europe since the inception of OHIM (as EUIPO - the European Union Intellectual Property Office - was originally known) in 1994. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Trademark Attorneys, and also a member of EPI, ECTA, AIPPI, INTA, AIPF and FICPI.
Michael Deans has personally handled the full range of patent and trademark work, including patent cases in the U.K. & at the EPO - the European Patent Office - on every kind of technical subject matter from genetic engineering through electrical and mechanical work to information technology, and trademark and design cases in the U.K. & at the EUIPO, and has acted as an advocate in the Trademarks Registry & the Patents County Court, and in the EPO to Board of Appeal level.
With one office in Farnham and another attached to his home, Mr. Deans can readily be contacted by telephone or e-mail throughout the normal working day, and beyond. The firm has the full complement of paralegal and searching support.

Laura Gardner
Chartered Trademark Attorney
Laura joined the IP profession in 2014, qualifying in 2018 and becoming a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney in 2019.
Laura advises a wide range of clients across a broad scope of sectors on IP strategy and brand use, how to protect and enforce their trade marks and designs, nationally and internationally. Laura particularly enjoys taking the time to understand each of her clients' unique commercial needs, so she can offer pragmatic ways forward to help her clients protect the fruits of their labour.
As a member of INTA, ECTA and AIPF, Laura also values the connections made with her fellow professionals abroad and continues to develop lasting and collaborative relationships.
Prior to her career in Intellectual Property, Laura gained 10 years of high-level arts and business administration experience in the media and arts, predominantly at the BBC, where her interest in Intellectual Property was first seeded, and at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Ricky joined our firm in 2022, having obtained his BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham with first class honours.
Having recently gained a Distinction in his Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property at Bournemouth University, Ricky is now applying the breadth of his acquired scientific knowledge to Intellectual Property law in his training to become a fully qualified Patent Attorney.
An ambitious learner, he aspires to qualify as a Trademark Attorney in addition.
